Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club

Wolverhampton Wanderers are a Premier League club based in the city of Wolverhampton. They are often just known as Wolves for short though. The club were founded in 1877; at first they were just a school side but a couple of years later they merged themselves with a local club called Wanderers FC thus becoming Wolverhampton Wanderers. Honours for them include 3 Division One Titles, 4 F.A Cups and 1 League Cup.

The club was recently sold by Jack Hayward and taken over by Steve Morgan, who invested £30m into the club for transfers alone. They appointed former Ireland manager Mick McCarthy and he had a philosophy on building a team full of young upcoming talent from the lower leagues; players such as Ebanks-Blake (their top goalscorer). Following this strategy they managed to gain promotion into the Premier League by winning the Championship in 2009.

Initially, when the club started out they wore blue and white for the club colours, then a couple of seasons later tried out a salmon pink and white. It was not until 1891 that they decided to change to what is now considered one of the most recognisable kit in English football. This is of course the gold and black strip that emphasises the city’s famous saying, “out of darkness cometh light”.
