West Ham United Football Club – The Hammers

West Ham United, also known as “the hammers” are English football club based in East London and currently play in the Premiership. This club were founded in 1895, but originally under the name Thames Ironworks F.C. It was later changed to West Ham in 1900. The clubs major achievement is winning the F.A Cup 3 times. The most recent one being in 1980 where they beat Arsenal 1-0; Trevor Brooking scoring the winning goal.

Even though the club has not necessarily won that many honours as other teams they still have a proud history regarding England’s 1966 World Cup win. It is widely considered that the West Ham players were an extremely important reason for England’s victory. For example, England’s captain then was Bobby Moore, and the two players who scored goals for England in the final was Martin Peters (1) and Geoff Hurst (3) – both West Ham players.

When the club was known as Thames Ironworks F.C, the club kit was all navy blue with a union jack badge on the shirt, a couple of years later it was then changed to a light blue shirt, white shorts with a red sash on it, and white socks. When it became West Ham United in 1990, they changed the colours to claret, light blue and white; and these have been the colours ever since.
