Everton – The Toffee’s
Everton were founded in 1878 and are the most established team in England; this is because they have been in the top flight of English football for 107 seasons in total – a record. Everton’s major honours include their 9 League Titles and 5 FA Cups. The FA Cup they won in 1995 is the most recent silverware they have won when they famously beat Manchester United 1-0 thanks to a goal from Paul Rideout.
Everton’s first real period of success came in the 1920’s when they signed Toffee legend Dixie Dean; he still has the record for the most goals scored in one season where he managed to total 60 goals in 39 games in the 1927/28 where they won the championship.
The Toffee’s club colours have always known to be blue and white ever since 1901, however before then they tried out various kit colours. For example, when they first moved into Goodison Park in 1892, Everton’s kit colours were a burgundy red shirt, navy blue shorts and navy blue socks. Sometimes Everton would try change the traditional blue coloured shirts for a lighter sky blue shade like they did in 1997, but this seemed to be very unpopular with the fans.
