Tottenham Hotspur 2 v 0 Fulham

Tottenham Hotspur 2 – 0 Fulham

Spurs look lively out of the blocks and are harrying Fulham right from the get go. Expensive mistakes are made in the Fulham defence and they give away a sloppy goal. Schwarzer missed the cross and gave a chance for Modric to cross to Crouch who chips in for 1-0. Gareth Bale is having one of his best games tonight for Spurs and Modric has been their best player in the first half. It been all Spurs in the first half with only Bobby Zamora going anywhere near for Fulham.

Fulham are stringing passes together but have little penetration, but whilst the score remains at 1-0, Tottenham remain within reach. Bentley has a free kick just outside the box on the left side. His shot deflects from the head of Riise and goes past Schwarzer into the net for 2-0. Tottenham are turning up the heat. Bale and Modric are both attacking the Fulham goal well. It results in Spurs gaining corner kick number 10. In the end it is a comfortable win for Tottenham Hotspur against a weakened Fulham side.

Bolton Wanderers 1 – 0 Burnley

Wanderers beat local rivals Burnley 1-0. Owen Coyle managed his Bolton side to the win against his old team at the Reebock Stadium. The only goal of the game came in the first half as Lee Chung-Yong scored from a Davis through ball in the 35th minute. Bolton now move up to 15th and Burnley drop down into the relegation places.

Portsmouth 1 – 1 West Ham United

Two teams struggling at the foot of the Premier League battled out a 1-1 draw at Fratton Park. West Ham had not won away from home since the opening game of the season and Portsmouth have the worst home record of Premier League teams. West Ham United took the lead with a chested goal from Upson. Portsmouth equalised from Webber on 76 minutes to share the spoils. The drawn result does little to relieve either sides points tally.

Wolverhampton Wanderers 0 – 0 Liverpool

Rafa Benitez is under intense pressure at Liverpool after a shocking display against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux tonight. The guarantee of Benitez that Liverpool would finish in the top four looks increasingly impossible. Wolves were the better team for much of the match and Liverpool created little chance of an opening throughout. Champions League football looks a distant dream for Liverpool next season.

Scunthorpe United v Manchester City - FA Cup

Scunthorpe put up a brave display against Premier League rich boys in the FA Cup today. Petrov had scored early on for City after just 3 minutes had passed as he shot into the top corner from the left side. Paul Hayes equalised on the half hour with a well taken volley. It should maybe have been given offside though. Manchester City restored their lead before the half time whistle blew when Onuoha netted for 2-1.

Fifteen minutes into the second half Sylvinho netted a scorching shot from about thirty yards. Scunthorpe United continued to harry and fight back. They gained reward with twenty minutes of time remaining on the clock when Cliff Byrnes effort at goal was put into his own net by Boyata who tried in vain to keep out the strike at goal. Robinho scored the fourth goal for City lifting his shot over the keeper. It has been rumoured that Robinho may well move away from City soon and he celebrated his goal with the Manchester fans. Final score Scunthorpe United 2-4 Manchester City. City next play local rivals Manchester United in the Carling Cup semi final second leg at Old Trafford.

Stoke City v Arsenal - FA Cup

Stoke City unbeaten at the Britannia Stadium in 2010. With 70 seconds on the clock, Ricardo Fuller stuns the Arsenal with a goal from a Delap throw in. Stoke continue to be hustling the Gunners and not giving them time to settle on the ball. Campbell is playing his first game for Arsenal since  his Champions League appearance in 2006. Stoke are feeding balls down the channel to test his speed and fitness.

After 18 minutes Arsenal get a chance for some sustained pressure on the Stoke City goal. Stoke break free again and Fuller is brought down just inside the penalty area by Silvestre. Fuller tries his hardest to stay on his feet and what should have been a penalty is waved away. On another day Fuller would have been awarded the kick. Stoke continue to press forward, Campbell and Eastmond continue to do well in the Arsenal defence.

Arsenal not into gear yet and cant get their normal crisp passing game together. A contentious free kick is awarded after the ball strikes the arm of a Stoke player. Definitely not deliberate. Fabregas passes the free kick to Denilson who shoots  from outside the box. The ball deflects twice off of two Stoke players and runs past a stranded Sorensen for one, one.  There was no way he could have stopped the goal. Arsenal now back in the game and boss the final five minutes of the first half.

Stoke City start the second half strongly. Etherington and Fuller both having chances. Stoke continue to press forward but at this stage Arsenal have more ball possession. Theo Walcott looks frustrated, he is having a quiet game and gives away a free kick. Both teams are pressing forward looking for an opportunity. Whelan through to Etherington who crosses for Delap who narrowly fails to connect.

Arsenal make three substitutions Ramsey, Arshavin and Edwardo on for Thomas, Coquelin and Walcott. Arshavin wants to keep his woollen hat on but Arsene Wenger pulls it from his head with a smile. Ramsey looses the ball but Fuller fails to capitalise on the chance. Delap breaks free but cant control the ball. Silvestre is injured and goes off for some magic spray. Arsenal have used all three subs so he must return to the fray. Vela has a great chance but is denied in front of goal. Both teams are striving for the win. This game could turn either way.

Fuller scores his second and makes it 2-1 from a Sidibe cross from the right. This game is moving quickly end to end, a fascinating finish in store. Tuncay comes on for Fuller who has had a great game. Delap is replaced by Salif Diao. Whitehead scores, 3-1 to Stoke City. Its Whiteheads first goal for Stoke, what a time to score. With two minutes left of the game Etherington is replaced by Pugh. Its all over, Stoke City go through to the next round. Final score 3-1.

West Ham Olympic

Since taking over at West Ham, David Sullivan and David Gould brought into the fold, Karren Brady. Karren has already started to surround herself in controversy by suggesting that the team relocate to the London 2012 stadium. In a comment that most fans would be happy to have been reserved for April Fools Day, she has even suggested that West Ham United should be re named West Ham Olympic.

The London 2010 Olympic Stadium would have a capacity of some 55,000 which would be welcome, but there is also the question of having a running track around the perimeter of the playing area which is argued by some to get in the way of producing an intimidating atmosphere by having the fans situated some distance away from the action. Others argue that the stadium should be shared with Leyton Orient, but would they be playing to a capacity crowd or would a few thousand fans be lost in the vastness of the stadium.
