Arsenal Football Club – The Gunners
Arsenal Football Club, also known as “The Gunners” are an professional English football club from North London. The Arsenal are a well established side currently playing in the Premiership and are recognised as being one of the most outstanding football clubs in English professional football – with 13 league titles, 10 FA cups and 2 League cups.
Since Thomas Mitchell’s appointment as Arsenal’s first professional manager in 1897, there have been 18 managers in Arsenal’s club history. One of which is the current manager Arsene Wenger, who is recognised as the clubs longest serving manager (1996-present) and one of the most successful (3 Premier Leagues & 4 FA Cups).
One of Arsenal’s most significant seasons was when they won the Premiership title in the 2003/04 season which saw the club become one of only two teams to win a league without losing a single match. The team that achieved this triumph have earned the tag as “The Invincibles”. During this season they managed to notch up 26 wins and 12 draws out of the 38 games total and going into next season they maintained this run to 49 games unbeaten – a national record.
Through the majority of Arsenal’s past the colour’s used for their home kit have been red shirt’s with white sleeves and white shorts. However in the 2005/06 season the club unveiled a new kit which was described as a dark “red currant” colour kit to be worn for one season only; mainly to mark their last season at Highbury which was to be demolished at the end of the season.
From the start of Arsenal’s formation, away kits were predominantly white shirts and white or black shorts. This changed though from the start of the 1969/70 season, where they started to wear yellow shirts and blue shorts all up until the early 90’s that is where the away strip was changed at a frequent basis – mainly coming up with various two-tone blue or even variations of the old yellow and blue kits they used to have.
